How Community Way works for Business

Browse the community way portfolio, and choose the project(s) you wish to donate to. Fill in the donation/account-opening form stating how much community way pounds (cw£) you want to direct to each of your chosen projects. Remember this is not a donation in cash or goods, simply a transfer of cw£ from your community way account to the account of your chosen project(s). All donations will initially carry a 10% cw£, (non cash) service fee to the Community Currency Development Group to cover expenses.

When you open an account you will be issued with an account cheque book. All participating businesses will be listed in our Hopmarket Office, in other promotional material and also on the Internet. You will also be provided with point of sale materials to display to your customers your acceptance of cw£. (Usual terms of acceptance are between 15% and 50%) You are free to change your terms of acceptance whenever you wish. For example a restaurant may exclude certain times of the day or week, a shop may exclude certain items such as alcohol and tobacco.

At the till, sales staff, deduct the percentage of cw£ currently accepted from the cash total. The cash part of the sale is taken in the normal way, and the cw£ part is taken with a CC cheque (later by smart card). CC cheques/vouchers are made out for a set amount they are not negotiable and no change is given. Procedures generally follow those for other coupons/vouchers.

Takings in cw£ are no different from those in sterling and the same tax rules apply. Although the Inland Revenue count cw£ as equivalent to sterling when calculating taxes, they do not yet accept them in payment, so do make sure all cash costs are covered when setting your terms of acceptance of cw£.

"Bank" your cc cheques with Worcester CCAS to credit your community way account. Statements of account will be issued monthly. You can spend any earned cw£ by writing out a CC cheque and remember there is no interest earned or payable on your Community Currency account.
