Worcestershire Young Carers Project is seeking £10,000 to help young carers help themselves
Worcestershire Young Carers Project is a new project aimed at supporting the county’s estimated 500-700 children under the age of eighteen whose lives are restricted by a caring role. This means that they might be looking after or helping to look after a parent, brother, sister or other family member who is disabled, ill or frail.
The tasks young carers carry out might be things like personal care, physical care, paperwork, practical care, keeping an eye on, giving medicine, keeping company, taking out. The lives of these children are restricted by the responsibilities they shoulder. They often suffer educational and health problems as well as being ostracised by their peers because their experiences are so different and their lives so restricted.
The Young Carers Project aims to work with all agencies involved with children, to raise the profile of young carers and to encourage the agencies to adopt policies and actively support young carers.
The project also aims to support young carers directly by:
Any money raised from community way will be used to help progress the work of the project and will in particular help to develop the work with the young carers themselves.
